It may be not be known to many, but a Maya Indian from the tiny village of Sarteneja, northern Belize, Evan Pérez (accent on the first syllable please), has worked himself up the CNN ladder to become a thorn on U.S. President Donald Trump’s side. While as yet not well known as CNN’s Jim Acosta, the persistent Belizean is on TV almost every day poking holes in Mr. Trump’s pronouncements as to make Belizeans wary about the U.S. President’s attitude towards Belize.
Evan Pérez, a reporter born and raised in the humble country of Belize, worked his way up to Justice Reporter at CNN. He made his debut on the network in 2013, after he broke the story of the first criminal charges filed in the deadly attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/bestoftv/2013/08/06/exp-erin-us-files-charges-in-benghazi-attack.cnn
Pérez is a Justice correspondent at CNN. He is based in Washington, D.C. In his current role, he regularly writes for CNN.com and appears across the network’s programs to report on his findings.
Pérez and three other colleagues from CNN were awarded with the Merriman Smith Award for broadcast.
Prior to the joining the Wall Street Journal in 1998, Evan worked as a Miami reporter for the Associated Press. He was born in Belize and studied journalism at the University of South Florida, Tampa.
