Gold Standard Hotels

With the safety of travelers being top priority, visitors to Belize during Phase 3 of the country’s tourism reopening plan will stay at a certified Gold Standard Hotel that has been approved for reopening. These hotels are operating within a tourism safe corridor and have adapted new behaviors and procedure while ensuring minimal impact on guest experience.

According to the Belize Tourism Board, “The Tourism Gold Standard program is to keep you safer from arrival to departure. This extensive program is made specifically for hotels, restaurants and tour operators to enhance their health and safety standards. By adapting these new behaviors and procedures, these properties will be able to ensure the safety of all travellers as they enjoy vacationing in Belize.

Bear in mind that the “Gold Standard Hotel” has been applied to all tourist accommodations across the board, when these in fact are all not hotels. It is useful to remind readers of the way tourist accommodations in Belize are classified. According to the Hotels and Tourist Accommodations Regulations of Belize of 1999, the classification is ranked as follows with the top grade in facilities, security, location and amenities first: (A) Hotels and Resorts. (B) Apartments, Condominiums and Villas (C) Guest Houses, Lodges and Inns (D) Community Based Tourist Establishments

1 May 2021 update: A Belize Tourism Industry official has pointed out the that Belize Gold Standard Hotels moniker is falling by the wayside.

Health Issues In Belize

Bad water and poor sanitation are major causes of illness in much of the Third World. In Belize, happily these are less of a problem than in Belize’s larger neighbors, Mexico and Guatemala. All residents of Belize City and nearly all towns have access to safe and adequate water supplies — “pipe water” as it’s […]
