Emory King has spent more than 40 years in Belize after being shipwrecked on the "Longest Barrier Reef in the Western Hemisphere in 1953. Since then he has been called the Art Buchwald of Belize, the Benjamin Franklin of Belize, the Mark Twain of Belize and the American Ambassador of Belize. "I don't know why," King says. "All I ever wanted was to be the J. Paul Getty of Belize, but that didn't work out." Over the years King has published 6 books on the country, edited two magazines and one newspaper. He spent 25 years also selling insurance and real estate. He is President of the Belize Historical Society, a director of the country's largest bank - the Belize Bank, and currently serves as Government's Film Commissioner.
